Washington will be replacing Roy Reese, who is retiring at the end of his contract. As a Warwick resident, Washington has more than 24 years of experience. He is currently serving as principal of Warwick Valley High School, which has approximately 1,500 students.
The Washingtonville Central School District Board of Education appointed Washington at a Special Board Meeting on Monday, June 24. He was offered a three-year contract and will begin working alongside Reese in mid-August.
Washington earned his Doctorate in Instructional Leadership from St. John’s University and went on to complete his Master’s Degree in School Administration and Supervision at Mercy College. He previously served as an assistant principal at Suffern High School in Rockland County.
“Dr. Washington’s extensive knowledge and diverse background in education, along with his strong beliefs regarding communication and unity, made him the unanimous choice of the Board of Education,” said Washingtonville Board of Education President Jennifer Dellova. “We are very excited to welcome him to our District.”
Washington’s official start date as Superintendent of Schools is Tuesday, October 1.
